A prime objective was to read and collate data from all known Mafeking Diaries. There have been a few relatively recent publications, most were published shortly after the Relief and are now, withour exception, out of print. Unpublished diaries presented even more of a challenge. Baden-Powell's Staff Diary can on be read microfiche at the National Army Museum in London and the author has had the privilege of visiting South Africa in order to transcribe those held in Mafeking Museum Archives. Other privately owned examples have been consulted, including the Siege Diary of Town Guard Henry Martin presereved in the author's collection. |
