Mayhem, Magic and Monsters
A book by Hollie Day
Pig Tails: Mayhem, Magic and Monsters is an exciting new children’s book by author Hollie Day. Pig Tails started life when Hollie’s grandson, Charley was born, just over 10 years ago. Inspired by Charley’s nickname, ‘Piggy’, given due to his large cuddly piglet-like appearance, Hollie soon started to get ideas.
Originally only intended as a short story, the venture soon gained momentum as more and more ideas came to Hollie’s mind. All the references in the book are in keeping with pigs, giving rise to brilliantly inventive names such as the village, ‘Pigalilly-Hamlet’, their houses called ‘Wig Hams’ and the names of the main characters. The book is a fantastic mixture of humour, quirkiness and mystical intrigue. Hollie found the writing process hugely rewarding, despite personal commitments interrupting progress for several years.
With her roots in London, Hollie spent 17 years living in Kidderminster, before moving to Yorkshire 5 years ago. Now approaching her 58th birthday, the author believes that writing for children helps to keep her young at heart. Having previously had success with the publication of her poetry on a successful greetings card range, Hollie admits she has found the book-writing experience a lot more engaging and enjoyable; she now has a multitude of new and fun ideas for further stories.
Hollie is currently writing the second book in the Pig Tails series, which will ultimately be a collection of five books; each with a different one of the characters taking centre stage. The next book is based in a haunted castle in Scotland – but that’s all Hollie is prepared to give away at this stage!
