ABOUT THE BOOK

Tell'em you're from t'Fish Shop

When we were sent on 'errands', Mam always used to say,
'Tell'em you're from t'Fish Shop'

In her 60's, June Lindley finally put pen to paper to tell the story of her turbulent childhood, growing up in a fish and chip shop near Wakefield, and her unhappy marriage to a violent man.

Her compelling story takes you back to 1960’s Wakefield, to a time of dance halls and "shotgun" weddings.

It wasn’t easy for her to write all this down. She had a tremendousley tough life with her aggressive plumber husband who ultimately served a prison sentence for stabbing her. Eventually she did find happiness elsewhere.

June recently spoke about her book at the Ilkey Literature Festival and it was a resounding success.
